Patient Safety and Quality in the Time of a Pandemic

This course is a 1 hour, AMA PRA Category 1™ course that is designed to help physicians ensure patient safety, despite a continually changing environment. This course focuses on the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has presented for patient safety. It discusses how to prevent errors and learn from the ones that occur in the midst of chaos generated from a global pandemic. Particularly, the speakers describe how to build on a culture of safety when many key players are working from home or are out sick. Finally, it explores how academic institutions and the VA have answered these pressing questions.

Outcome Objectives:
1. Recognize the challenges faced by hospital systems in ensuring patient safety during national crises
2. Determine how to overcome patient safety challenges in their practice settings
3. Explain how practice-based research networks can be used to teach quality improvement
