“Insights from Physicians Experienced in Caring for Patients with Persistent Symptoms and Concerns about Lyme Disease” is a live, virtual event that will explore the findings of focus groups and in-depth interviews with physicians conducted by the AMA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Mathematica Policy Research. Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne disease in the United States and its incidence and geographic range have been increasing with climate change. While most cases of Lyme disease can be cured with a course of oral antibiotics, some patients experience persistent symptoms after treatment. In addition, some patients with persistent, unexplained symptoms are concerned that these might be due to undiagnosed Lyme disease.
The AMA, with support from CDC, collected expert opinions from physicians (n=25) from a range of specialties (primary care, neurology, rheumatology, psychiatry, and infectious diseases) about how they evaluate and treat patients with persistent symptoms and concerns about Lyme disease. In this webinar, participants will learn about the initial findings of this work and gain expert insights into the management of these diverse patients.
