In the ever-evolving health care landscape, leadership is crucial for shaping the industry's future. However, existing physician leadership programs have mainly focused on skill development, interpersonal dynamics, and team management. In a systematic review of 45 studies on leadership programs for physicians, 42% were centered on single-residency or fellowship programs. These predominantly targeted resident physicians or midlevel managers, indicating a notable gap in leadership development for physicians in top-level roles. With this gap in mind, how can physicians in academic positions acquire the necessary skills to become effective leaders? Join us in exploring the dynamic landscape of health care leadership development, and gain insights into how we can equip the leaders of tomorrow with the skills and competencies they need to excel in academic medicine.
