Stories of Our Ancestors: The Impact of Culture, Race, Trauma on Addictions

This session examines the treatment of trauma based on cultural identity or race and includes strategies clinicians can use with patients with historical, international, or racial trauma to help patients build resilience in their recovery process. Upon completion, learners will be able to:

1. Be able to describe research that demonstrates the impact of historic and intergenerational trauma on brain development and health risks later in life

2. Understand the racial underpinnings of the lived experiences of BIPOC clients and communities

3. Identify ways to explore the lived experience of BIPOC clients and be able to connect with cultural norms and values
