Psychoactive Substances Update: Kratom, Cannabinoids, Fentanyle & More

New psychoactive drugs can be challenging to identify and treat, especially serious medical and psychiatric complications. This session will inform attendees about emerging psychoactive drugs, including kratom, synthetic cannabinoids, nonpharmaceutical fentanyls, gabapentin, and others. Upon completion, learners will be able to:

1. Identify emerging psychoactive substances, including kratom, synthetic cannabinoids, nonpharmaceutical fentanyls, gabapentin, and others

2. Recognize clinical clues to intoxication with emerging natural and synthetic substances, and ways to differentiate from other drug use

3. Discuss treatment of medical and psychiatric complications resulting from use of emerging substances of abuse
