Precision Medicine for Your Practice: Genomic Testing in Pediatric Neurology

Learning Objectives
1. Identify scenarios in which there is further value added by molecular diagnosis
2. Evaluate the appropriateness of different genetic/genomic tests for clinical context
3. Evaluate when consulting a genetic expert can be helpful
1 Credit CME

Pediatric neurology providers and patients have more options than ever before for genetic testing, but not all genetic testing options have the same benefits and limitations. Broader tests assess more genes and can increase the possibility of a diagnosis, but can have specific limitations and challenges for results interpretation and counseling. Precision Medicine for Your Practice is a series of short (20-30 min) online modules covering specific topics in genomics and precision medicine. There are five parts: overview information via an animated video; practice cases to facilitate learning-by-doing; and “dig deeper,” logistics; and additional resources for those who are interested in more detail. This module will help participants identify when there is further value added by molecular diagnosis, and evaluate appropriateness of different tests.
