In this study, bipolar electrodes were placed on the skin over 9 muscles in the thigh to identify electromyogram (EMG) patterns for computer classification of knee and ankle motions and to test myoelectric control of a virtual prosthesis based on these EMG patterns. These muscles included anteriorly, tensor fasciae latae, sartorius, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, vastus medialis, gracilis, adductor magnus; posteriorly: semitendinosus, biceps femoris (long head).
Use the interactive illustration to identify these thigh muscles and their innervation.
