Modeled Prevalence of Daily Smoking and Estimated Cigarette Consumption in 187 Countries, 1980-2012

This interactive data visualization tool shows modeled trends in tobacco use and estimated cigarette consumption worldwide and by country for the years 1980 to 2012. Data were derived from nationally representative sources that measured tobacco use and reports on manufactured and nonmanufactured tobacco.

Use the tabs on the top left to navigate between 3 dashboards: worldwide trends, country-level trends, and data used for generating estimates. Use the settings at the bottom of each dashboard to select demographic categories and measures of interest, including geographic location, year, age, sex, and metric. This data visualization tool was developed by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.
