These past few weeks have sharpened a discomfort and unease that have long lurked at the back of my mind. I am a physician who has now been working in the US for 15 years. As an international medical graduate, my heart and mind have long been used to the idea of 2 allegiances—India as my motherland, the source of my childhood memories and comfort food, the place where most of my extended family still live, and the US, where I have now spent most of my adulthood. My children identify as American, and the politics and news I follow daily relate to the US.
