How Does Bariatric Surgery Compare With Medical Care for Reducing Cardiovascular Disease in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes?

Coronary artery and cerebrovascular disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality for patients with type 2 diabetes. But medical management, including lifestyle changes, may not be successful at lowering risk. In this JAMA Abstracts video, we review the findings from a cohort study that suggests that bariatric surgery results in lower risk of major macrovascular outcomes compared with usual medical care.
