NeuroVR (CAE Healthcare) is a high-fidelity neurosurgical simulator designed to recreate the visual and haptic experience of resecting a human brain tumor through an operative microscope. Researchers at McGill University sought to use a machine learning algorithm to classify the surgical expertise of attending physicians and trainees performing a virtual subpial resection task. This video illustrates the technique of a surgeon performing the simulated procedure. The bipolar forceps are held with the nondominant hand and appear on the left; the ultrasonic aspirator is held in the dominant hand and appears on the right.
