Association Between Hospital Conversions to For-Profit Status and Clinical and Economic Outcomes

An increasing number of US hospitals have converted from nonprofit to for-profit status. This video summarizes findings from a 2014 study characterizing the hospitals that made the switch in the 2000s and found improvements in hospital finances without any improvements in health care quality, patient mortality, or provision of care to poor or minority black or Hispanic patients.
