The American Medical Association (AMA) and the European Board for Accreditation in Cardiology (EBAC) signed a CME agreement under which select activities approved for EBAC External CME credit are now eligible for conversion of the hours of participation to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. The agreement is effective for activities with a start date of Oct. 1, 2019 through Sep. 30, 2021. Credit cannot be retroactive.
Only activities certified for EBAC External CME credit in the following categories are eligible for conversion:
- Live events (oral presentations with simultaneous presence of the audience)
- E-learning (other CME/CPD presentations including print media, CD-ROM, internet, e-books)
- Micro e-learning (point-of-care decision support and educational units of less than 60 minutes duration)
EBAC External CME hours of participation will be converted to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for individuals who have received a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or an equivalent international degree. Other healthcare professionals can receive a certificate of participation.
EBAC credits will be converted based on one hour of participation equaling one AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for all activity types. Physicians wishing to convert EBAC External CME credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, and other medical professionals wishing to obtain a certificate of participation, will be required to follow the instructions outlined below and will be required to pay a processing fee to the AMA.
The following AMA credit designation statement must be included on all disseminated promotional materials and all certificates given to physicians for their participation in the above-described categories.
"Through an agreement between the European Board for Accreditation in Cardiology and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EBAC External CME credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Information on the process to convert EBAC credit to AMA credit can be found on the AMA website. Other health care professionals may obtain from the AMA a certificate of having participated in an activity eligible for conversion of credit to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™".
Certificates provided to participants should delineate the total number of accredited hours of participation in the activity so that the appropriate conversion to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ can be made.
