Boundaries for Physicians: The Code of Medical Ethics

AMA April 6, 2017
This e-learning module incorporates animation, infographics, and scenario-based learning to help physicians identify and understand how to maintain proper boundaries with their patients and to articulate and understand the underlying importance of those boundaries to the practice of medicine. Data on physician self-reported behavior and physician disciplinary actions, including the AMA's own Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs' disciplinary function, suggests that maintaining professional boundaries remains a significant challenge for physicians in practice, despite existing and longstanding ethics guidance on the matter. This CME will highlight key areas where establishing professional boundaries may be particularly challenging.
