Online Courses for Arizona CME Requirements

Arizona State Continuing Medical Education (CME) Requirements

  • Credit amount: For both MDs and DOs, Arizona requires 40 hours of CME credits per licensure cycle. For DOs, 24 hours must be AOA Category 1-A, and no more than 16 hours are to be obtained annually by completing a CME classified as AMA PRA Category 1™ credit by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
  • Licensure cycle: Biennial—to be renewed every other year on or before the licensee’s birthday.
  • Topics: Physicians with a valid United States Drug Enforcement Association registration who prescribe schedule II-controlled substances are required to complete at least 3 CME training hours each renewal cycle on topics related to opioids, substance use disorder or addiction. More than 30 CME credits can be earned in any subject area.

The Arizona CME requirements listed above were accurate when posted, but CME state requirements change frequently. Due to COVID-19, certain states may have modified their licensure requirements. Physicians are advised to confirm Arizona’s current requirements with the Arizona Medical Board.
