Online Courses for Georgia CME Requirements

Georgia State Continuing Medical Education (CME) Requirements

    • Credit amount: Per Emergency Rule - 360-15-0.12-.01, Georgia’s requirements have changed to 20 hours of CME credits for renewals submitted in 2020 and 2021. First-time license renewals are exempt from CME requirements.
      • Emergency Rule - 360-15-0.12-.01 can be downloaded from the Georgia Composite Medical Board’s Rules and Laws page.
    • Licensure cycle: Biennial.
    • Topics: Physicians must complete a one-time training course of 3 or more Category 1 CME hours in controlled substance prescribing within their first renewal period following licensure. Physicians who do not hold a certification in pain management or palliative medicine, and whose opioid pain management patients comprise 50% or more of the patient population, are to complete 20 CME hours pertaining to pain management or palliative medicine biennially.
    • The state CME requirements listed above were accurate when posted, but CME state requirements change frequently. Due to COVID-19, certain states may have modified their licensure requirements. Physicians should confirm Georgia’s current requirements provided by the Georgia Composite Medical Board.
