Online Courses for South Dakota CME Requirements

South Dakota State Continuing Medical Education (CME) Requirements

    • Credit amount: The state of South Dakota does not have a set number of required CME credit hours for physician license renewal.
    • Licensure cycle: Biennial.
    • Topics: As of February 2021, the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners (SDBMOE) does not have specific topical requirements.
    • CME requirements listed above were updated based on information from the SDBMOE, but education requirements do change. Due to COVID-19, certain states may have modified their licensure requirements. Physicians should confirm South Dakota’s current requirements provided by the SDBMOE.

Get email alerts with new AMA Ed Hub activities that meet your state requirements. Sign up in your account interests section of the AMA Ed Hub.

There are no topic requirements for this state, so physicians licensed to practice in South Dakota can select from a wide range of AMA Ed Hub CME topics and activities. Our courses are entirely online. Simply review the activity then successfully complete the accompanying quiz to earn CME credits.

Selected CME modules have been curated to create featured courses on trending topics. Our online CME is available in text, video and audio/podcast formats. Featured courses include:

      • COVID-19 Vaccines CME - To help fight the COVID-19 pandemic and inform your patients, learn more about COVID-19 vaccines, including immunization development and updates, authorization, distribution plans and safety.
      • Electronic Health Records (EHR) CME - Take one or more of these activities. Explore and learn the importance of securely sharing electronic information with patients and other clinicians, as well as enabling safe and reliable prescribing with this course.
      • Diabetes Care: Research, Treatment and Support CME - Gain a better understanding of diabetes and explore the latest innovations in its treatment, including the role of genetics, augmented intelligence and clinical decision support.

The SDBMOE is South Dakota’s governing body for CME and medical license requirements. Their mission is to:

“protect the health and welfare of the state's citizens by assuring that only qualified allopathic and osteopathic physicians, advanced life support personnel, athletic trainers, dietitians, genetic counselors, licensed nutritionists, medical assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, physician assistants, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and respiratory care practitioners are licensed to practice in South Dakota.”
Additional information can be found on the SDBMOE website, including account login, contact information and more.
